pros&cons

July 20, 2010

So the two week countdown has begun. And I don’t mean that in a good way. Granted, part of me is ready to come home and get back to life at Mizzou, but I’m guessing it’s going to really weird adjusting back to life in the US. Here are the pros and cons of leaving Buenos Aires:

Pro: It’s only 40 degrees in Argentina. And I don’t have a coat.
Con: It’s 100+ degrees in St. Louis.

Pro: Unlimited peanut butter, bagels, Taco Bell (well, maybe limited…) and pretzels
Con: No empanadas or alfajores

Pro: Back to school shopping (I’ve been eyeing the Urban Outfitters and Forever21 websites for a solid 10 weeks)
Con: No shopping at Plaza Francia (I’m going to miss my fruit cups and pan relleno dearly.)

Pro: Dishwasher and a Dryer
Con: I have two suitcases full of laundry to do…

Pro: Tropical Moose and Sheridans
Con: I become tonsil-less on August 2, so no amount of snow cones and ice cream can make me THAT excited about coming home.

So none of those are substantial reasons to stay or go. It’s been the summer of my life and I can’t believe it’s less than two weeks away from being over. My family has been asking me to come home since May 18 (to their surprise I’ve survived a summer in a foreign city) and the rest of the group is planning an amazing getaway to Bariloche and can always use an additional rommate. And frankly, I’d like to make everyone happy. Let’s channel Miley Cyrus and call for the Best of Both Worlds. (Too lame? Sorry.) Here’s what stands between me and stepping on that ever-so-long United flight on July 30:

Dia de los Amigos
FuerzaBruta
MALBA Art Museum
Casa Rosada Tour
Investigative report on “Sueños Compartidos” to air on the radio
Spanish Final Exam
One last weekend (nights out, Plaza Francia, etc.)
The events of July 29 (feat. the Alex Guns)
Watching the sunrise by the river
Packing

Who knew ten weeks flew by so quickly? Here’s to hoping the next ten days make time stand still.
